A view of Aspley Guise

Weathercock Lane

The ghost of the infamous English Highwayman, Dick Turpin is said to ride down Weathercock Lane. Accounts state that Turpin discovered the bodies of a girl and her lover secreted in a cellar cupboard within the Manor in Aspley Guise; the poor girls’ father shot them, as he disagreed with the relationship.

Seizing the opportunity to make personal gain of the grisly situation, he blackmailed him into allowing him to take refuge there whenever the authorities were after him.
