Bendrose House

Bendrose House was once the home of the renowned actor, artist and author, Dirk Bogarde. When interviewed by Peter Underwood, Bogarde stated that seven different people on separate occasions witnessed phenomenon that could be correlated to each of the other reports.

The witnesses all awoke between 4am and 5am and reported experiencing the tactile sensation of an electric shock whilst staying in a particular room.

The Chequers Public House

The Chequers Public House lies on London Road West and is home to a reputed nine ghosts!

Audible moans and groans are said to eminate from a group of men named the Amersham Martyrs – men burned at the stake for their religious convictions in Tudor times.

A hooded phantom of a woman in white frequents an area in which guests are not offered accomodation. It is suggested that this is the apparition Joan, a daughter of one of the aforementioned Martyrs.

The bar area is the haunt of the gaoler responsible for keeping the condemned men incarcerated. His appearance is described as being cloaked and “lurking near the fireplace”. One woman reported being pushed back into her seat three times by something invisible.
