The Spread Eagle was a public house that once served the village of Croxton. It closed in January 1999.
According to Playfair, the building was reputedly haunted by phenomena consisting of "unusual noises" after closing time, which sounded as if the pub had "suddenly filled up with a whole crowd of ghosts".
Other audible effects included the sound of heavy breathing.
