Tatton Old Hall

Higher Tower Common

Higher Tower Common is reputedly haunted by a murder victim from centuries past. An innkeeper murdered a rent collector for his money. Afterwards, he was so haunted by the ghost that he confessed on his death-bed.

The Royal George Hotel

Playfair describes this building as a "fine old hotel", which is now sadly perminently closed. This Coaching Inn dates back to the late 18th century, with later additions and alterations, possibly incorporating structural remains of an earlier structure. Visitors included Queen Victoria.

The building was reputedly haunted by a man named Edward Hawkins, a local criminal whose career ended on the gallows on 7th November 1767. There are also reports of sightings of a phantom coach and horses, and the sound of its horn being heard.

Tatton Old Hall

Tatton Old Hall is a country house in Tatton Park. The house is a Grade II listed building and is owned by the National Trust and administered in conjunction with Cheshire East Council. It was built around the start of the 15th century, by either the Stanley family or Sir Richard Brereton. There is still speculation as to who was responsible.

The Hall is reputedly haunted by a crying lady that is sometimes seen but more often just the sound of sobbing is heard. A second female phantom has also been reported, and she has been named Elenor by mediums. The apparition of a man walks along an upstairs landing. Other apparitions include a young girl. Some have reported a negative energy with a "hatred" towards women.
