Sennen Cove

Sennen Cove

This cove (pictured above) was once the haunt of mermaids and by a ghost known only as The Hooper – a cloud of mist that lay on Cowloe Rock and hooted by day, and emitted “showers of sparks at night”. The Hooper was regarded as a guardian spirit, until a foolhardy fisherman and his son beat through the mist, and none of them were ever seen again.

The Irish Lady

The Irish Lady is a rock that lies just south of Cowloe Rock that acts as a memorial to an Irishwoman that was a victim of a shipwreck. She scrambled onto the rock, but tragically the rescue boats were unable to reach her in time, and the ill-fated lady slipped into the sea. Her ghost is still seen clinging to the rock.
