A view of Thirlmere

Dalehead Road

An apparition, believed to be a member of the Leathes family, reputedly haunts the Dalehead Road. However, the author Coxe in 'Haunted Britain' does not give any more specifics.

Armboth Hall

Armboth Hall no longer exists in the true sense of the word. What does lies at the bottom of Thirlmere Reservoir, as it was just one of the buildings amongst the village that was flooded when this expanse of water was created in the 1890’s.

The Hall was owned by the Jackson family, and had a reputation for being haunted by the apparition of a girl that was married at midnight and then murdered. Locals stated that even though the house lay deserted, it was lit up as if for a banquet. The guests, however, were not from this realm, but that of the dead. On the list of those attending were the Calgarth Skulls.
