The Lumsdale Wishing Stone

Some people still fervently believe in the properties of the Lumsdale Wishing Stone. The Wishing Stone is at Lumsdale on the outskirts of Matlock, at the end of Wishing Stone Way and near Lumsdale Road. The rather elegant shelter has two seats facing both ways.

According to the author Coxe in 'Haunted Britain', there are a number of petrifying wells to be found in Matlock Bath, which was once visited by thousands of Victorian visitors. You you can see the petrifying process taking place in the working well as the famous Matlock Bath thermal water is sprayed onto objects gradually turning them to stone.
