Kents Cavern

Kents Cavern is a cave system notable for its archaeological and geological features. The cave system is open to the public and has been a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1952 and a Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1957.

The Cavern is reputedly haunted. In 2009, a visitor named Simon Howard took a photograph inside the caves which appeared to show an anomaly. The photograph is reproduced in Haunted Britain. Others have reported the feeling of being watched and safety helmets lifted from their heads by unseen hands. Pictured left is Kents Cavern courtesy of Richard Dorrell.

Montpellier House

Montpellier House was a former Choir School, and is the vicarage for St. Johns Church. According to Coxe, one or two ghosts haunt it. The first ghost is believed to be Henry Ditton Newman, who died in 1885, and whose organ played by itself at his funeral! The second apparition is that of a man who allegedly committed suicide there in 1953.

Torre Abbey

Torre Abbey was founded in 1196 as a monastery for Premonstratensian canons, and is now the best-preserved medieval monastery in Devon and Cornwall.

The Abbey is reputedly haunted by a headless monk, a Spanish lady and phantom coach that carries Lady Cary.

The monk is said to originate from the 1300's when an Abbot beheaded a canon. The monk is said to ride around the grounds on a horse.

The Spanish lady haunts the Tithe Barn, which is now referred to as the "Spanish Barn". This unfortunate woman was the fiancee of a lieutenant aboard the Spanish Armada flagship, Nuestra Senoa del Rosario, captured in 1588 by Sir Francis Drake. She was incarcerated in miserable conditions in the barn, and succumb to the harshness. Following her death, there have been reports of her ghost walking the grounds in a distressed state.

An "illuminated" phantom coach and horses is supposedly driven through the grounds, carrying one Lady Cary. The smiling spectre, dressed in a ball gown, was a former occupant of Torre Abbey.
