The Old Inn

The Old Inn

The Old Inn (pictured above) dates from 14th Century and is reputedly haunted by the ghosts of "Old Harry" who is seen but then suddenly vanishes, and the sounds of "heart-rending sobs" from an upstairs bedroom. These cries have been attributed to a young girl named Mary Jay (circa 1823) who committed suicide when she found herself pregnant.

Widecombe in the Moor Church

Coxe states that a bolt of fire damaged the church in 1638, and was said to be connected with a stranger with coven hoofs.
