Washer's Pit is located at an entrance to Ashmore Wood, and at one time there was a barrow here. A cross cut into the turf here was always scoured, and is believed to have held some significance, according to the author Coxe. The locale was also the haunt of Gabbygamies – ghostly creatures whose strange gibbering's once filled the air.
