Poyntington Manor House

The Meadow

In June 1646, Roundheads slaughtered a small band of Royalists led by a young man named Baldwin Malet here. Malet's body is buried in the churchyard, but his comrades were buried where they fell, and today the mounds in the meadow are their gravestones. This unfortunate group, who are headless and accompanied by a young girl who somehow got caught up in the battle, reputedly haunts the area.
