The ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey

Shaftesbury Abbey

The ruins (pictured above) are said to still hide the treasure of the Convent of St. Edward. A monk before the Dissolution secreted the valuable items, following instructions received from Elizabeth Souche, the last abbess. However, he died before he could reveal the whereabouts, and some believe that the ghostly monk reportedly seen in the ruins is trying to show people where he hid the treasure.

Gold Hill

On the street, the apparitions of two men in company with packhorses have been reported. The horses are said to be carrying the body of Edward the Martyr Prince, who was murdered at Corfe in 979, to his final resting place.
