Langenhoe, Essex, England

A view of Langenhoe

Langenhoe Church

The village church was once reputed to be amongst the most haunted buildings in Essex. From 1937, the vicar reported various phenomena including the apparition of a woman, the smell of violets and poltergeist activity. Unfortunately, it was damaged in the Essex earthquake of 1884, closed to worship in 1955 and demolished in 1963 after it was deemed structurally unsafe.

Langenhoe Manor

The same vicar who experienced the phenomena reported at the church was in bed at the Manor when he alleged to have found himself in the “soft embrace of a naked female ghost”!
