The Municipal Offices

Pittville Circus Road

A house named Garden Reach (now changed) in Pittville Circus Road was the scene of one of the most well documented cases of a haunting between 1882 and 1889. The apparition of a female, believed to be that of Imogen Swinhoe, was sighted holding a handkerchief to her face. The case is expertly referred to in ‘Hauntings and Apparitions’ by Andrew MacKenzie. The apparition has also been reported during the 1950’s and 60’s in a different house on the same street.

Vittoria Walk

The former home of Captain Thomas Hardy (5 April 1769 – 20 September 1839 - an officer of the Royal Navy who served as flag captain to Admiral Lord Nelson, and commanded HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar) is reputedly haunted, although further details are unavailable at this time.
