The Burgage and Royal Oak

The Priory

The Priory is a grade II listed building and is haunted by the Black Abbot. He also frequents the High Street.

St. Mary’s Church

The most infamous ghost in Prestbury - the Black Abbot - is regularly seen in the church and churchyard. The Black Abbot's ghostly wanderings traditionally occur on three church festivals - Christmas, Easter and All Saints' Day.

Idsall House

A man working in the basement was pushed from behind by an unseen presence.

The Burgage Area

Several ghostly horsemen have been heard and seen in Shaw Green Lane and the Burgage – one reportedly a medieval rider heading to Edward IV’s camp at Tewkesbury during the War of the Roses who was killed by an archer, a Cavalier bearing news of the Battle of Worcester, and another being a knight in armour.

Mill Street / Mill Lane

During road works a skeleton was found with an arrow between the ribs. Witnesses have seen strange figures drifting in and around these roads, and are thought to be a legless man, a lady in white, an old lady gathering wood and the sounds of marching men!

Prestbury House Hotel

The ghost of a young girl has been seen in the garden of the Prestbury House Hotel, which is also said to be haunted by the sound of horses hooves belonging to the rider who was killed during the Civil War by a rope across the road that severed his head!

Sundial Cottage

The apparition of a girl playing a spinet has been reported in the garden of Sundial Cottage.

Cleve Corner

Two very different ghosts are said to frequent the area of Cleve Corner. The first is the spirit of “Old Moses” who once resided (in life) at Walnut Cottage. The second is the rather unpleasant “Phantom Strangler”!

The Shepherd and his Sheep

The apparition of a shepherd accompanied by his phantom flock of sheep has been reported, although the location is being ascertained.
