Snowshill Manor

Snowshill Manor

Snowshill Manor is a sixteenth century country house, best known for its twentieth century owner, Charles Paget Wade, an eccentric man who amassed an enormous collection of objects that interested him. He gave the property to the National Trust in 1951, and his eclectic collection is still housed there. Snowshill Manor was once the property of Winchcombe Abbey from 821 until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539. Henry VIII presented it as a gift to Catherine Parr.

The house is reputedly the scene of phantom footsteps that pace across empty rooms. Some believe that it is Charles Wade returning to keep an eye on his beloved collection.
