Alma Lane

In Alma Lane, in the vicinity of the Alma Inn and Beam cottage, audible phenomena have been reported. Witnesses have heard ‘heavy-booted running’, that some have attributed to the ghost of an orderly murdered in the lane. He was en route to Aldershot, bringing news of the victory at Waterloo, when he was set upon by footpads and killed.

All Saints Church

A group of figures reported to be wearing attire matching Cromwellian troops, have been witnessed walking in the churchyard, as well as a solitary armoured Civil War soldier riding up to the church on horseback. Sources claim that the villagers have heard the sounds of musket fire from time to time.

Some believe this to be a residual haunting from the Civil War, as the church was used as an "improvised defence". A skirmish did take place here, and there are bullet holes in the walls and some of the woodwork bears the scars of blades used. Pictured left is All Saints Church courtesy of Andrew Mathewson.

Itchell Manor

Itchell Manor was sadly demolished in 1954. It's gardens were laid out by Capability Brown. However, a greenhouse built 1840 is still in use and a Tudor Gateway remains. In its time, the house had a reputation for being the most haunted in Hampshire.

An invisible coach and horses would be heard to race up its driveway and stop at the front door. Audible phenomena continued inside the house, with bangs, thumps, footsteps and a crying child all reported. It seems that the sounds of the phantom flock of sheep was also reported here! It was also believed that the house was haunted by a former owner, Squire Bathurst.
