Moyle’s Court (now Moyles Court School) is said to be haunted by Dame Alice Lisle, who was allowed to be beheaded instead of suffering Judge Jeffrey’s sentence of being burned at the stake. She had been tricked into harbouring a Monmouth partisan, although the son fought the James II at the Battle of Sedgemoor.
