Coxe states that there were two adjoining houses in Magpie Hall Road which at his time of writing had been haunted for "twenty years". He does not state what phenomena have been reported.

St. Mary's Barracks

St. Mary’s Barracks were between 1779 and 1782 and served numerous uses, from housing convicts and French P.O.Ws, a large powder magazine, a store for the Royal Engineers before becoming a barracks for various units.The Barracks was demolished in the 1960's and little trace now remains.

 

It was reputedly haunted by the sounds of "limping footsteps and the tapping of a crutch or wooden leg".
