Black Horse Inn

The Black Horse Inn is reputedly haunted by a ghost that likes to hide item belonging to staff and customers. Glasses and cutlery have been moved.

Brick Walk Clay Pit and Brickworks

The Clay Pit and Brickworks is supposedly haunted by the ghost of man killed when a wall of clay fell on him. His screams are also said to be heard.

Church of St. Nicholas

The Church of St. Nicholas is supposed to be haunted by two apparitions - a White Lady and a Lady in Red. The White Lady has been sighted inside the church. The Red Lady is believed by some to be Lady Dering, who was buried in a red dress and holding a red rose. She allegedly walks the graveyard. However, Jones has the White Lady holding the rose in his book, and their stories become mixed. So, which is the accurate version?

 

A "strange dancing light" has been sighted in the and a knoking has been heard coming from beneath the vault floor. Researchers in the 1970's allegedly saw a phantom dog inside the church, although believed it to be real when they saw it.

Dicky Buss's Lane

The area once called Dicky Buss's Lane is reputed to be the haunt of a schoolmaster that hung himself shortly after the end of World War One. This tragic phantom has been seen swinging from a tree.

Elvey Farm Country Hotel

The Elvey Farm Country Hotel is a beautiful place to stay, in what is a converted 1400's barn. Before its current use, it was a farmhouse where reports state that there were sightings of a young male apparition with fair hair and beard. Doors were said to open of their own accord and lights switched on. It is not known if there are any viable reports since becoming a hotel.

Fright Corner

Fright Corner is the reputed haunt of a highwayman, who was run through with a sword and speared to a tree. This violent scene is said to be replayed at night.

Greystones

Greystones is a house reputedly haunted by a phantom monk. Some have suggested a connection between the monk and the lady at Rose Court.

Park Wood

Park Wood is the alleged haunt of a colonel who hung himself in the woods. His ghost has been seen walking there.

The Pinnock

Near a house called the Pinnock there stands a ruined mill, which is allegedly haunted by the apparition of a miller who appears before a thunderstorm.

Pinnock Bridge

Pinnock Bridge is located on Smarden Bell Road. It is allegedly haunted by a pipe-smoking gypsy woman. It is claimed she was burned to death in suspicious circumstances.

Pluckley to Maltman's Hill Road

This unnamed road is haunted at night by the sounds of a phantom coach and four as it travels along this dark stretch.

Rose Court

Rose Court is supposed to be haunted by a phantom female. It is said she took her life by drinking the juice of poisonous berries between 4pm-5pm, which is the time her apparition has reportedly been seen.

Station Road

People walking along Station Road have reported the sounds of a dog yapping and the "cheerful chatting" of a man and woman. However, none have been sighted.

Surrenden Dering

Surrenden Dering was the manor that once belonged to the Dering family, that were so closely associated with Pluckley. A White Lady, allegedly one of the Dering family, was reputed to haunt the house.
