Friary Court

The Old Rectory

The Old Rectory in Friary Court has a reputation of being very haunted, and evidence has been collected by a number of rectors who have lived there. The apparition of what is described as either a nun or nurse has been sighted. The author Coxe describes her as “4ft 6in; shape - dumpy; dress - brown”, and carrying rustling papers. A local story has it that a friary once stood on the site of the rectory, and it was there that three nuns were seduced by the monks and bricked up alive in the walls.
