Leicester Guildhall

Dane Hills

Dane Hills is a large area on the western side of the English city, consisting of the smaller areas of Newfoundpool, Western Park, and New Parks, which is bounded by Glenfield to the west.

According to Coxe, there was a cave somewhere in the Dane Hills area with a fearsome reputation. It was known as Anne's Bower, and was frequented by a blood-sucking witch. Such was the concern amongst the local populace, it was "blocked up", presumably with the woman still inside.

Attempts to pinpoint the location have as yet been unsuccessful.

Leicester Guildhall

The Guildhall is a Grade I listed timber framed building, with the earliest part dating from c. 1390. It was used first as the meeting place for the Guild of Corpus Christi and then later for the more formal Corporation of Leicester. The hall was used for many purposes, including council meetings, feasts, as a courtroom, library, police headquarters and for theatrical performances; the ultimatum given to the city during English Civil War was discussed here.

It is reputedly haunted. Apparitions reported here include a White Lady. Furniture is moved and a Bible here is often found open when staff unlock the premises. Footsteps are also reported.
