Hexham Market Place

Hardriding Farm

Hardriding Farm a private residence and NOT open to the public. It is supposedly haunted by what Brooks describes as "a gruesome ghost" - that of a border outlaw who attempted to gain entry to the stronghold one night sometime around the 1400's. An alert guard hacked at the criminal as he scaled the wall. In the daylight the following morning, only the hands and feet of the man were found - the rest of his body having been eaten by wolves. His ghost is said to appear on the anniversary of his demise, although Brooks does not state when this is.

In the 1930's, a poltergeist allegedly disturbed the family Christmas at Hardriding Farm.
