Wem High Street

Wem Town Hall

The Town Hall was reputedly haunted by a girl who accidently started a fire in 1677 which left parts of Wem devastated. When the Town Hall itself went up in flames on 19th November 1995, local man Tony O'Rahilly claimed to have captured a ghostly girl on photos he took of the blaze. O'Rahilly always denied any fraud. However, following his death in 2005, another local man claims that the figure is that of a girl on a series of old photographs from the area.

The "ghost" photograph taken in 1995, left, is strikingly similar to a 1922 postcard right South West News Service.
