Creech Hill

Creech Hill is situated approximately 1.2 miles northwest of Bruton. The hill is notable for a univallate Iron Age hill fort.

According to folklorist Katharine Briggs, Creech Hill is said to be haunted by a ghost known as the Bullbeggar - a "black uncanny shape" and unseen footsteps. This ghost has chased solitary walkers before bounding away with maniacal laughter. Another night traveler was attacked on Creech Hill and defended himself from midnight to morning with the help of a staff made of ash.

Coxe suggests that if you travel this way make sure you have a lantern and a staff tipped with Hazel!
