Luds Church

Lud's Church (sometimes written as Ludchurch) is a deep chasm penetrating the Millstone Grit bedrock created by a massive landslip on the hillside above Gradbach. It is over 100 metres long and 18 metres deep, mossy and overgrown, wet and cool even on the hottest of days.

According to legend, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck and Bonny Prince Charlie are all reputed to have hidden from the authorities within the chasm.

However, it is also reputed to be haunted by the ghost of a girl from the 15th century.
