St. Andrew’s Church

The A3 Road

Matthews states that a phantom hitchhiker in the form of a young woman would wave down motorists on the A3. The figure was allegedly reported from 1947, and the narative is common with other phantom hitchhiker accounts.

According to Coxe, witnesses have reported a “strange and frightening figure” on the A3 road at Cobham. Matthews states that the apparition of a man of “hideous ugliness” has been sighted on the A3 Portsmouth Road Bridge. The figure wears a long black overcaot. Could this be one and the same apparition?

Cobham Park

Cobham Park is a country mansion and estate situated to the south of Cobham. It was formerly the seat of John Ligonier, 1st Earl Ligonier, and it is his apparition that is said to frequent the banks of the River Mole. The figure is described as wearing an “old military greatcoat”.

St. Andrew’s Church

The graveyard at the church was once reputedly haunted by a spectral donkey with a difference – it was blue in colour! It was reported during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
