Hampton Court Palace

Hampton Court Palace

Hampton Court Palace (pictured above) has a reputation for being one of the most haunted buildings in the United Kingdom. It is noted for its royal connections dating back to Tudor times - and a number of its ghosts originate from that era. In fact, author Richard Jones claims that there are "more than thirty ghosts" at Hampton Court!

These include Jane Seymour, who is seen walking from the Queen’s Apartments carrying a lighted taper; and Catherine Howard, who is more often heard screaming in the gallery leading to the chapel. Another apparition is that of Mistress Penn, foster mother to Edward VI. In 1917, a police officer on duty reported two males in company with eight ladies approaching him - but vanished suddenly when they got within 30 feet of him!

The Old Court House

The Old Court House lays claim to being the home of Sir Christopher Wren during the last five years of his life, and unsurprisingly it is his ghost that has been reported to appear here on the anniversary of his death - 26th February. Also witnessed is the apparition of an “eight year old boy with long hair, dressed as a seventeenth century page”.
