Newark Priory

The ruins of Newark Priory are located between Ripley and Pyrford in Surrey.

 

Newark Priory was one of the monasteries that were dissolved during the reign of King Henry VIII. Today Newark Priory is listed as a Grade I Ancient Monument. It is located upon private land but can be viewed whilst walking along the River Wey between Pyrford and Ripley.

 

The phantoms of monks have been reported strolling through the ruins and along the banks of the River Wey.

The Talbot Inn

The Talbot Inn remains one of England’s finest coaching inns, and is said to have provided the stage for Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton’s love affair to blossom in 1798.

 

The ghost of a coachman haunts the Talbot Inn, although has not been reported following the completion of renovation work at the time of the publication of Haunted Surrey (2011).

It is located 6 miles southeast of Woking, 7 miles northeast of Guildford and 22.5 miles southwest of London.
