A view of Allington

The Well

The Well in Allington was once the scene of a suspicious death. The circumstances revolve around a curate who was about to go out riding with friends following dinner. They stated that as he mounted his horse he fell and broke his neck. In panic, they dumped his body into the well! It was many years later that the hostess on that fateful day tried in vain to tell the truth on her deathbed, but she was taken before all could be revealed. Since that time, horses behave oddly at the spot.
