Applespill Bridge

According to legend, there is supposed to be buried treasure at Applespill Bridge. This may have some connection to the story of the apparitions of seven men seen carrying a gold coffin in the vicinity. Another phantom on the bridge is that of a tragic shepherd that got lost in a snowstorm and died of exposure. He has been seen and heard, pitifully crying, “I want to go home”.

Patty's Bottom

The site of Patty's Bottom, so to speak, was a focal point for a clash between Roman's and Britons. Locals have reported that the sounds of “tramping feet” have been heard, and there have been “headless horses seen rushing madly about”.

Vernditch Chase

Many years ago, a house that once stood here was the scene of a murder. The grisly scene is re-enacted by the apparitions of those involved, and some claim to have heard the three sickening axe blows that beheaded the victim.
