Zeals House

Zeals House

The apparition of a young woman dressed in grey reputedly haunts the house (pictured above). She has been sighted walking down the staircase then out of the house into the grounds past the lake. It has been suggested that she was the daughter of one of the owners who eloped with a servant, never to be seen again (alive that is). However, sometime during the 1800's, a female skeleton was unearthed in the woods near to the house, and a stone marks the spot of the discovery. Some believe that the unfortunate woman was murdered and buried a short distance from her home.

There are also reports of audible phenomena in the Great Hall. Brooks describes these as "ghostly echoes" from when Royalists discovered a spy whilst billeted there. The spy was killed.

The house is NOT OPEN to the public.
