The Circle on the Ground

In the 18th century, a clergyman was travelling on horseback between Llaneilian and Amlwch, when he discovered a circle on the ground. It was unclear as to the nature of the circle, whether it was a stone circle for example, but it was haunted. The clergyman was attacked by a large, ghostly greyhound. This happened on two successive nights as the clergyman made repeated journeys along this route.

However, on the third night he approached the area on foot and found the greyhound chained. He proceeded to ask the ghost why it was there and actually received a response. In life the spirit was a man, and he wanted to disclose the whereabouts of some treasure. This was duly found and the spirit set free. The treasure, however, was not a huge amount - one groat (four pence in today’s money)!
