The Mason's Arms Hotel

The Haunted Ruin

In the 1830’s, a young girl was walking near a ruined building in a field in Bryncethin and had unusual experiences on successive visits at the location. The first experience comprised of something shooting past her, whereas on the second she witnessed the lower part of a female figure that frightened her enough to run home and recount her tale.

Elders persuaded her that she needed to ask the spirit, in the Lord’s name, what she wanted. She duly did this and was informed by the ghost that there was a hoard of treasure hidden under the hearthstone in the ruin, which needed to be thrown in the stream. This task was duly completed and the ghost roamed no more.
