A view of Risca

The Gwyllgi

The Gwyllgi in Risca took the form of “a great Mastiff dog” which terrified a man walking home one night in the 1700’s. It followed him and then transformed into “a great fire”.

 

He was on the way home from the Alehouse though…

Risca (Welsh: Rhisga) is a town in southeast Wales, within the Caerphilly County Borough and the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.

It is today part of the Newport conurbation (which as a whole has a population of 140,200), though it is not a Ward of Newport City Council.
