New Hawarden Castle

Hawarden Castle

During the 1740’s, reports of a “misty form” said to resemble a dead steward were reported at Old Hawarden Castle. His form was spotted in the castle laundry. It is said that a priest, who put his spirit into a block of granite and never to be seen since, ultimately laid the ghost to rest. The ghost of former British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone has been reported wandering his former home of New Hawarden Castle (pictured above).

Hawarden Airfield

At the small airfield, the ghost of a WW2 RAF Sergeant has been reported. It is said that he is seen standing near the spot where a fighter plane crashed in 1941. Some say that it is the former pilot returning to the scene of his tragic death.

Gladstone’s Library

The ghost of former British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone has been reported reading in the library at St. Deiniol’s too!

The Glynne Arms

The Glynne Arms is supposedly haunted, and a number of types of phenomena have been reported. These include the pattering of “feminine feet”; light taps on the doors, and a smell of “some kind of perfume”. Some time in centuries past, a bolting horse apparently killed a young boy, and his ghost is also supposed to haunt the building.
