Yr Eifl

Yr Eifl

The three mountains of Yr Eifl (which are referred to as The Rivals in English) overlook the village (one of which is pictured above), and one of them is said to be haunted by the ghost of a wizard. He was witnessed in the 18th century, and was described as “an old man with long white hair and flowing beard”. He was observed in the valley uttering strange words beside Craig Ddu, which would be followed by the sound of music and then the old man would make “magic signs” with his arms and hands. Could this be the ghost of Merlin that some have hinted at?

Nant Gwytheyrn

There was once a tree in this area named “Ceubren yr Ellyll - “The Spirit Hollow Tree” - which links back to a tragic love story that ultimately ended in a ghostly one during the 1700’s. The ghosts are said to be of the two lovers hand in hand, one a wild man bridegroom and the other a skeleton of his bride.
