Sir Shorne's Well

Sir John Shorne’s Well is also known as the Town Well, and is said to have the power to queue were "scorbutic and cutaneous (sic) diseases, ague and the gout". In other words, it will remedy scurvy, skin diseases, fever and acute inflammatory arthritis.

 

In life, Shorne was rector in North Marston from 1290 – 1314, and the world has been offering its healing properties ever since. It is said that the glass of water drunk at night would cure at the cold by the morning. Pilgrims to the well allegedly stayed at one or two of the houses in Church Street that still stand today.
