The Black House

There is apparently the ghost of a man from the 16th Century called Squire Hilliard that frequents the building, and well as the figure of a monk. It is claimed that the apparition of Squire Hilliard is looking for his son who tragically took his own life when he prevented him from marrying the woman he loved. The Squire didn’t think the girl was suitable for his son and forced her to marry another man. The young son committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, and his horse returned home rider-less.

There are said to be “very strange things” happening in the Black House regularly. Doors are found to be inexplicably locked and bolted. Unusual noises and footsteps have been heard, both inside and outside of the property. Horses hooves have been heard on the lawn, as if the lawn is of cobblestones, and not grass. Those moving about on their own business outside have seen mysterious lights inside the house.
