At Deancombe you will find The Pool of the Black Hound, which is haunted by the ghostly form of a black canine, as the name aptly suggests. The apparition has taken the form of a hound, but in life was a man from Dean Prior by the name of Knowles. In life, Knowles was a weaver. When he died, his soul refused to leave his earthly body, so the village priest transmogrified it in somewhat unchristian fashion into a Black Dog. He is forced to empty the pool using a leaking walnut shell until he finds his own salvation.
