Tiverton Castle is the remains of a mediaeval castle built in 1106, dismantled after the Civil War and thereafter converted in the 17th century into a country house, occupying a defensive position above the banks of the River Exe.
The grounds are said to be haunted by the ghosts of Alice Spencer and Maurice Fortescue, who walk arm in arm together.
