Sackmore Lane

Sackmore Lane

The apparitions of two figures allegedly haunt Sackmore Lane (pictured above), with their faces hidden by the coffin they carry. They are travelling in the direction of the village of Todber, where there is the site of an apparent battle. A large number of bones were apparently found there in 1870. Obviously, some authors have made guesses as to the significance of the coffin being taken towards a battlefield, whereas Coxe believes it more likely that it be going towards a plague-pit.
