The Crown (pictured above), or as the author Coxe refers to it in 'Haunted Britain' as The Crown Hotel, is located in Market Street. In 1966, the local newspaper, the Dorset Herald, stated that it was “the latest in a long line of local premises plagued by poltergeist activity”.
Coxe states that there has been audible, kinetic and visual phenomenon, although why this is attributed to a poltergeist is debatable, as such occurrences generally centre on an individual. The sounds of a “body being dragged across the floor” have been heard, whereas others have claimed to see a “fluorescent mist” in the building.
