The Angel Inn

The Angel in is located on Main Road and is reputedly haunted by a number of entities. These include “a distressed spirit that refuses to leave”.

BBC Essex

The studios of BBC Radio Essex are located on New London Road, and are reputedly very haunted, with some reports claiming that there are 5 spirits occupying the building.

 

This includes “an old lady, and angry old man, a nine-year-old girl and a boy and a girl in their teens”.

The Bringey

This is a road where the apparition of Molly Ram has been reported. She also reputedly walks Molram’s Lane nearby (see below).

Chelmsford Prison

The apparitions of a woman “wearing a crinoline dress and bonnet”, and a figure of an “old-fashioned prison warder” carrying a lamp have been reported within the confines of the prison, by staff and prisoners alike.

 

Also reported are the ghosts of a priest, another a man with a distinctive smell, and shadowy figures. Audible pheneomena include disembodied voices, the sounds of children playing, unexplained bangs and footsteps. Various objects are reported to have moved.

Chelmsford Railway Station

Furniture in the building has been reportedly overturned by something unseen infront of an employee.

Civic Theatre

The Civic Theatre is located on Fairfield Road. The apparition of a man who assists patrons has been reported, along with drops in temperature, sounds of footsteps and feelings of unease. Another curious apparition is that of a white butterfly traditionally seen in December.

High Chelmer Shopping Centre

After the demolision of the Spotted Dog Inn (see below), a shopping centre was constructed on the site, and witnesses have reported unusual activity in the shops. This includes the movement of objects, such as boxes being thrown around. Some have drawn a connection to events at the Spotted Dog Inn being responsible.

Hylands Park

Witnesses have reported a shadowy figure in the wooded area in the grounds of Hylands House (pictured left courtesy of Andrew Pickess).

Molram's Lane

This road is named after Molly Ram, a woman murdered by her husband in the 1800’s. Her apparition has been reported walking along this stretch of road. She also reputedly walks The Bringey nearby (see above).

Patching Hall Lane

The apparition of a “tall a very pale” man wearing “a cloak and top hat” has been reported in Patching Hall Lane.

St. Mary's Church

St. Mary’s Church is located in Church Street, Great Baddow.

 

A group of phantom Civil War era soldiers has been seen outside the church, and a phantom monk has been reported walking in the aisles of the interior.

The Spotted Dog Inn

The Spotted Dog Inn was located on Tindall Street, but was demolished around the late 1960’s. A guest murdered in his sleep reputedly haunted it. After its demolision, a shopping centre was constructed on the site, and further phenomena are reported there. Please see High Chelmer Shopping Centre above.

The Well House

The Well House was a located in Broomfield, which lies on the outskirts of Chelmsford. An account of mysterious knocking that presided a death dates back to 1785.

The White Horse Inn

The White Horse Inn is located in Great Baddow and reports of ghostly phenomena are well documented. A ghost named “Albert” is regarded as being the main culprit. Phantom footsteps on the attic stairs have also been reported.

Chelmsford is the principal settlement of the City of Chelmsford and the county town of Essex, England.

It is located in the London commuter belt, approximately 32 miles northeast of Charing Cross, London, and approximately 22 miles from Colchester.
