This property was allegedly “plagued by poltergeists” according to Coxe. However, other reports state that activity included "odd smells, doors opening and closing... and a strange mist".

The Abbey and Gatehouse

The Abbey and Gatehouse have been witness to visual phenomena, although the author Coxe in Haunted Britain does not say what. However, Day states that a phantom monk “walks the ruins with a lit taper in his hands”. The ghost of Robin the Woodcutter, featured below, has also been reported walking in the grounds.

Baumanns Brasserie

According to reports, Baumanns Brasserie boasts a “plethora of paranormal activity”, including footsteps, cold spots, doors open on their own, and small and large objects move of their own volition. Mediums have claimed that there are 5 “separate spirits” in the building.

Cradle House

Cradle House boasts a procession of phantom monks being reported. According to Day, they have been seen “dancing in the garden”.

Guild House

The figure of a “little old man” and mysterious “balls of light” haunt Guild House in Market End.

The Old Black Boy Bistro

The Old Black Boy Bistro is located on Church Street. Strange lights, sounds, being touched by something unseen and an apparition were reported.

Robin’s Brook

The ghost of Robin the Woodcutter is said to swing his axe in the area known as Robin’s Brook. The sounds are said to echo in the distance. His ghost has also been reported walking in the grounds of the Abbey, mentioned above.

The White Hart Hotel

Witnesses at the White Hart Hotel report temperature drops, a feeling of being watched, objects moving and aubile phenomena. Room 5 is purportedly the site of more activity.

Coggeshall is a small market town in Essex, England.

It is located between Colchester and Braintree on the Roman road of Stane Street, and intersected by the River Blackwater.
