The Chequers Inn is a 14th century pub which is reputedly haunted by the apparition of a soldier murdered there approximately 200 years ago.

Three Went-Way

Just outside of Smarden on the road to Pluckley is a place known as Three Went-Way where there is a bush known as the "Devil's Bush". If you run around it three times, the Devil is said to appear
