Coxe states that there have been sightings of spectral headless horsemen and there are reports of the sounds of "galloping horses and the clash of accourements" around dusk.

 

Although no exact location is given, Coxe states that these could be remnents of either Royalist or Jacobites.

Historically in Lancashire, the town is north of Liverpool and south of Ormskirk in West Lancashire.
