Bruern Abbey

Bruern Abbey

A phantom monk is said to haunt the Abbey (pictured above) and his walk follows the route of a subterranean passage that is rumoured to lead to Tangley Hall, some four miles away. Today this country house is a boarding school.

The Priory and Old Rectory

The author Coxe highlights a priory and associated rectory in the town with quite a haunted reputation. Phenomena range from apparitions of an “old-fashioned gamekeeper” and a brown monk; audible effects of “unearthly screams”, singing and that of a bell tolling; and telekinetic phenomena.
