The Monument to John Thurlow Reade

The Monument

A pyramidal stone monument (pictured above) to John Thurlow Reade who died in India in 1827, can be found in a field 800 metres north of Ipsden House. The apparition of John Reade appeared to his mother at Ipsen.

Watch Folly

Watch Folly is an area near Ipsden. It was in this area that the author Coxe conveys the murder of a shepherd boy. He was accosted by a group of sheep-stealers and hung from an oak tree. The area is said to be haunted as a result.

Ipsden is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, England.

It is situated in the Chiltern Hills about 3 miles southeast of Wallingford.
