Sandwood Bay

Sandwood Bay

Sandwood Bay is a natural bay, best known for its remote 1 mile long beach. The bay can be reached by a 4 miles path leading from the gravel car park at the hamlet of Blairmore. Sandwood Bay is part of the Sandwood Estate which is run by the John Muir Trust. The beach is considered to be one of the cleanest and most unspoilt beaches in the whole of mainland Britain.

It is reputedly haunted by a phantom sailor that walks across the sand, who some have reported looks incredibly lifelike and attempted to speak to him. Could this stocky, bearded figure wearing boots and reefer jacket be a remnant of one of the many ships wrecked off the coast?
